Why Oil Cleansing is the best
To me, Oil cleansing was a cardinal sin because in my initial days I was told that only oil-free products will keep my skin clear and acne-free.
But, here is something new for me – according to the latest research, oil for the skin has incredible benefits. It’s soothing and healing properties have been an amazing game changer.
Benefits of Oil Cleansing –
- lift excess sebum, the oily substance produced by glands on your skin
- clean out clogged pores like blackheads and whiteheads
- remove dead skin, pollutants, and makeup
Makeup removers often include oil because it’s well-suited for lifting oil-free, oil-based, and waterproof formulas off the skin and lashes.
Find your Oil –
These days we have a lot of brands adding oil cleansers to their skincare line. You can choose from a variety of options if you want to buy them. However, making them at home is the easiest and cheapest way to make sure you use clean ingredients.
The most common kitchen-cabinet recipe usually includes a mixture of castor oil and extra-virgin olive oil. A standard 1:1 ratio is a good place to start, but you will need to adjust as needed depending on your skin type.
- Normal Skin: 1:1 ratio of castor oil and extra-virgin olive oil
- Oily Skin: 3:1 ratio of castor oil and extra-virgin olive oil
- Dry Skin: 1:3 ratio of castor oil and extra-virgin olive oil
How to use Oil Cleansers –
Step 1
Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry.
Step 2
Use your oil mixture to apply to full face and neck. Take a full minute to work the oil into your skin. Massage your face focusing on areas of congestion (T-zone) as well as areas of muscular tension (like the jaw).
Step 3
This step is key to oil cleansing. Wet a washcloth with warm water and wring it out. Place it over your full face, and press the warmth into the face. Remove all the excess oil with the washcloth. You may need to do this multiple times. Be thorough but not rough. This gives you a bit of gentle exfoliation as a bonus.
Step 4
You can follow this with a gentle facewash or skip that continue with the rest of your night time routine.
